http://anki.ichi2.net This is an incredible little flashcard program which runs on a spaced interval recall system (very effective)
It works online and off on your PC (you can study offline and sync your offline application at a later date) or it can be run completely online - which means no software install. It also has a version which can be accessed by a cell phone browser here in Japan (perhaps also other countries, I'm not sure)
There is a facility to create and share decks and I think there might also be a Japanese interface available.
Now... Why am I posting this? (besides the fact that it's a very nifty little application and highly recommended for anyone learning a language)
I would like to hear from anyone using this with students and to hear how they implemented it in their classes (e.g. '
I helped my students get this set up for keitai (cellphone) access and started keeping an example sentence and new vocab list in class. I used those to create a couple of different study decks and set my students studying as homework')
The above is what I'm thinking of doing, but I can see a couple of potential issues (number 1 being the time factor - I would think you'd need to synchronize study across a number of classes to make it time effective)
The other issue is the demographics of my student base (not PC wizards on the whole - they would be capable of - and happy to - use the cell phone interface if I set it up for them, but the chances of any of them taking responsibility and setting up their own study is practically zero...)
So, if anyone has a go, please post back and let me know how it went...
